"High Mobility Generation" is documentary project realized traveling through Europe and collecting interviews along the way, in a 5000 km long road-trip from Schengen, Luxembourg; the place where the borderless Europe is born; to Copenhagen that will be in 2025 the first world capital at zero emission. Denmark, on 2012, has also taken the top spot on the United Nation's first ever World Happiness Report. So this is a trip from the origin of contemporary Europe to the place where seems possible to see the future, today.

The target of people to interview it was represented by all those young citizen of EU living, studying, working and building their identity in more then one country, speaking many languages, traveling with cheap flights with their lives compressed in the hand luggage size limits. Sharing ideas and knowledges using the internet, as digital native or digital raised. New mobile subjects defined by the social anthropologist Nina Glick Schiller as -Transmigrants-.

The film wants to be a a way to look through the window with many eyes, to discover what the generation that is building the future sees through that window. The film production was built planning a trip using an instrument in line with the film philosophy: the social network "Couchsurfing", born to let travelers share a symbolic couch, so basically hospitality, while traveling.

The brief of the project was posted on the groups of all the cities along the itinerary of the road-trip, and so then the trip became a -couch itinerary- in which the discover of the High Mobility Generation was made up by meeting the characters in their homes. Those who decided to join the project answered to the post and invited the crew to surf their couch. So the interviews were conducted directly on their couches.

The film was realized traveling with technical equipments condensed in the -hand luggage size- dimension, the same that has to contain the whole life of this generation of new citizen of the world while they go looking for their future: a DSLR camera, a small microphone, a notebook and a social network. So production design, web casting and traveling philosophy were developed in parallel. The goal was try to realize a collective video diary of a generation.
A ROAD TRIP THROUGHOUT EUROPE
We went on a 5000 kilometer-long road trip throughout Europe traveling from Schengen, Luxembourg, the birthplace of a borderless Europe, all the way to Copenhagen, which will be in 2025 the first zero emissions world capital. Denmark on 2012 has also taken the top spot on the United Nation's first ever World Happiness Report. So we traveled from the birthplace of a borderless Europe to a place where you can already see and experience the future firsthand.

TO PORTRAY A GENERATION
We wanted to interview young people who have grown up in a Europe without borders: those who live, study, work, think and travel around in a high-mobility society, both digitally-connected and multicultural. Those who are contributing today in building the society of tomorrow. We went about casting in an unusual way: We posted an abstract for the project on the social network “Couchsurfing”, and whoever liked the idea then invited us to “surf” his or her couch and conduct interviews. So we did High Mobility Generation.
